§ 72.40 OFFICERS AUTHORIZED TO REMOVE VEHICLES.
Whenever any police officer finds a vehicle in violation of any provisions of § 72.11 or § 72.25, or a vehicle abandoned in violation of Ch. 90 or in violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code or city ordinance reasonably requiring removal of the vehicle for safety purposes from a public right-of-way, the officer is authorized to have the vehicle towed to a location authorized under the city’s impound ordinance (Ch. 99, Vehicle Impound). To re-obtain possession of the vehicle, the vehicle owner or person in charge of the vehicle shall pay all towing and storage fees which are in addition to any fines associated with an ordinance or traffic ticket. The vehicle owner or person in charge of the vehicle may request an administrative hearing seeking release of a towed vehicle as covered under the city’s impound ordinance.
