12-3-4: WATER SUPPLY:
   A.   Every subdivision shall be provided with a complete water distribution system adequate to serve the area being platted, including appropriately spaced fire hydrants, with steam nozzles. The spacing of the hydrants is to be approved by the city fire chief, and the entire water system shall be designed to meet the approval of the Illinois department of public health and the superintendent of the city water department.
   B.   All water mains in the distribution system shall be flushed and sterilized in the presence of the project inspector, and they shall not be put into use until approved for use by the Illinois department of public health.
   C.   All water mains in the distribution system shall be subjected to a pressure test whereby the mains will be under ordinary main pressure plus fifty (50) pounds per square inch for a period of eight (8) hours without interruption. The mains must maintain such pressure for such period, the prescribed allowance for leakage being permitted, before the mains will be considered as completed.
   D.   No water shall be used from the city system for flushing, sterilizing or testing without prior approval of the superintendent of the city water department. (1977 Code § 16.16.050)
