1662.02 INSTALLATION REQUIRED; PLACEMENT; DEVICES FOR HEARING IMPAIRED PERSONS; HARD-WIRED DETECTORS.
   (a)   Owners of all dwellings shall install a minimum of one smoke detector adjacent to the sleeping area in each dwelling unit. At least one additional smoke detector shall be installed on each additional story of the dwelling, including the basement, but excluding any crawl space or unfinished attic. R-3 dwellings with one or more split levels, a smoke detector on an upper level shall suffice for an adjacent lower level, provided that the lower level is less than one full story below the upper level. If a door intervenes between adjacent levels, a smoke detector shall be installed on both levels. In all R-1, R-2 and R-4 dwellings, smoke detectors and/or a fire alarm/fire detection system shall be installed per Ohio Fire Codes and N.F.P.A. 72. Where a dwelling is occupied by a person who is deaf or hearing impaired, and a written request for the installation of a smoke detector is received by the owner from an occupant in the dwelling, a smoke detector shall be installed by the owner which provides a visual or vibrating signal sufficient to warn the deaf or hearing impaired individual when activated.
   (b)   In all new construction of, R-1, R-2, R-3 and R-4 dwellings, smoke detectors and/or a fire alarm/fire detections system shall be installed per N.F.P.A. 72 and the Ohio Fire Codes.
   (c)   Upon change of ownership of a R-1, R-2 and R-4 dwelling, a fire alarm/fire detection system shall be provided which complies with N.F.P.A. 72 and the Ohio Fire Codes.
   (d)   In all R-1, R-2 and R-4, buildings that have three or more suites/dwelling units, shall have all smoke detectors and/or a fire alarm/fire detection system installed per N.F.P.A. 72 and the Ohio Fire Codes.
   (e)   In all use groups that are required to have an approved fire alarm or fire detection system, consisting of more than 19 activation devices, then said system shall be monitored by a central monitoring system.
   (f)   All R-1, R-2 and R-4 buildings with more then 12 or more suites/dwelling units shall have a fire alarm or fire detection system that is monitored by a central monitoring system.
   (g)   Any building with a fire alarm or fire detection system may be required to have an annunciating panel(s) in locations as directed by the Fire Prevention Officer or Fire Chief.
