(a) There shall be no storage of propane permitted in areas other than those zoned industrial in excess of 100 pounds. Except as specified elsewhere in this section. A permit shall be obtained from the Fire Prevention Officer or Fire Chief before any storage or use of propane is allowed in the City. An exception is allowed for 20 pounds of propane for residential gas grills.
(b) Any propane-fired roofing equipment, regardless of size, shall be required to have a permit issued for it by the Maple Heights Fire Division prior to work being started.
(c) Propane for industrial use shall be stored only in an approved manner and area.
(d) A permit is required for the storage, sale or exchange of filled propane tanks in areas zoned General Retail and Local Retail. The storage of tanks shall comply with the following.
(1) Tanks are limited to a maximum size of 20 pounds each. The total number of tanks either full, partially full or empty is limited to 18. In areas where tanks can be stored in locations not accessible to public vehicle traffic and a minimum of 200 feet from an adjoining residential property, or an adjoining property occupied by a school, church, hospital, athletic field or other point of public gathering, the total number of tanks can be increased to 54.
(2) All tanks shall be stored in an approved racking system. Racks will only be allowed against non-combustible walls. Racks shall be a minimum of 20 feet from any wall opening, exit or fueling dispensing pump. All racks shall have approved crash protection. The installation and location of all propane storage racks shall be approved by the Fire Prevention Officer or Fire Chief.
