(a) There is hereby established the Building Department which shall be directed and controlled by a Building Official duly-certified by the State of Ohio as required to meet the requirements for certification as a Residential Building Department to enforce the Residential Code of Ohio for One, Two, and Three-Family Dwellings as well as a Nonresidential Building Department under R.C. Chapter 3781.
(b) He or she shall be appointed by the Mayor with confirmation of City Council. He or she shall serve at the pleasure of the Mayor.
(c) Notwithstanding the provisions of division (b) of this section, the Mayor, with the authorization and approval of Council, may contract for Building Department services to provide the City with a duly-certified Building Official and certified inspectors so as to meet the requirements of the State of Ohio for certification as a Residential Building Department necessary to enforce the Residential Code of Ohio for One, Two and Three-Family Dwellings as well as a Nonresidential Building Department under R.C. Chapter 3781.
(d) Whenever the term "Building Commissioner" is used in the Codified Ordinances of the City of Maple Heights, Ohio, said term shall also mean a duly-certified "Building Official" as outlined in the Codified Ordinances. The terms Building Commissioner, Building Official and Zoning Inspector shall be synonymous.
