6-2-6: DISPLAY OF UNAUTHORIZED SIGNS, SIGNALS OR MARKINGS:
   A.   Prohibited: No person shall place, maintain, or display upon or in view of any street any unauthorized sign, signal, marking or device which purports to be or is an imitation of or resembles an official traffic-control device or railroad sign, or signal, or which attempts to direct the movement of traffic, or which hides from view or interferes with the effectiveness of any official traffic-control device or any railroad sign or signal.
   B.   Advertising: No person shall place or maintain nor shall the Town permit upon any street any traffic sign or signal bearing thereon any commercial advertising.
   C.   Adjacent Private Property: This Section shall not be deemed to prohibit the erection upon private property adjacent to streets of signs giving useful directional information and of a type that cannot be mistaken for official signs.
   D.   Portable Caution Signs: The prohibition of this Section shall not apply to portable "Caution" signs placed in the vicinity of schools at those times during which school children are going to and coming from school.
   E.   Nuisance Declared: Every such prohibited sign, signal, or marking is hereby declared to be a public nuisance and the Town is hereby empowered to remove the same or cause it to be removed without notice.
   F.   Penalty: Whoever shall violate this Section shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined not more than three hundred dollars ($300.00). (1977 Code § 10.08.060)
