(a) Pursuant to Ohio R.C. 9.60 and 737.041, as amended, Council hereby authorizes the Director of Safety, the Chiefs of the Police and Fire Departments, and the officers on duty in charge of the Police and Fire Departments, to render the services of those Departments to other municipalities, townships, counties or the State in times of emergency, whether or not the City has entered into mutual aid contracts for police or fire services with any of those political subdivisions or the State. The determination of "times of emergency" shall be made only by the Director of Safety, the Chiefs of the Police and Fire Departments, or the officers on duty in charge of the Police and Fire Departments, upon a call for emergency police or fire protection services by the State or another political subdivision of the State. In addition, even though a request for assistance has not been made, a City of Lyndhurst police officer who sees a police officer in another jurisdiction in distress or receives an urgent call for aid to any other officer in distress nearby, may, in the exercise of sound discretion and reasonable judgement, enter into the other jurisdiction to render assistance to the officer in distress.
(b) The personnel of the Police and Fire Departments rendering emergency services to other political subdivisions, or rendering service to an officer in distress, shall, as provided by State law, be entitled to all of their usual wages and benefits, shall be covered by Workers' Compensation, and shall be immune from any liability arising from the reasonable, good faith rendering of emergency police and fire protection services or the rendering of services to an officer in distress as provided herein.
