In order to maintain the overall municipal forest, reasonable efforts shall be made to replace trees that are removed and to protect quality trees that are endangered.
Trees removed by recommendation of the City Tree Board and approval of the City Manager, or by natural causes should be replaced somewhere in the forest on a one-for-one basis within one year. The location and species of replacement trees should be recommended to the City Manager determined by the Tree Board.
Trees removed at the request of the adjacent property owner should shall be replaced somewhere in the forest on a one-for-one basis within one year and at the expense of the requesting property owner. Such replacement tree may be selected by the property owner from among the desirable species list and be of the same size category as the removed tree, i.e. large tree for large tree. The location for the replacement tree shall be recommended by the Tree Board.
Trees of desirable species and good health shall be protected as much as possible from damage during construction, sidewalk repair, utilities work above and below ground, and other similar activities. The zone of protection shall include the ground beneath the canopy of the tree. (Ord. 19-33. Passed 8-19-19.)
