2.02.345: DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION; SAFETY DIVISION:
The mayor shall appoint a safety officer who shall function under the department of administration and who shall report directly to the mayor. The duties of the safety officer shall include promotion of safety program development, procedural compliance with safety regulations to enhance the safe and healthful work environment for employees. The safety officer shall also be responsible for monitoring and inspecting safety activities among the various departments to ensure the implementation of the standardized safety program through the city. In that regard, all departments are required to adhere to the safety officer's directives and recommendations. If any department head disagrees with the reasonableness of the safety officer's directives and recommendations, the department head may appeal in writing directly to the mayor, whose decision on the matter shall be final.
