A. The function of the department of police is to preserve the peace and good order of the city, to detect and bring all violators of state and city law to justice, to prevent crime and protect life and property and to perform all functions as required by law.
B. It is the duty and function of the chief of police to direct and control the activities of the police department and to perform all other functions and duties as required by law. (Prior code § 2-1-2(f)(1))
