(a) Each full-time employee shall be entitled to sick leave of 15 days with pay per year. Employees may use sick leave, upon approval of the proper authority, for absence due to illness, injury or exposure to contagious diseases which could be communicated to other employees. Such sick leave shall be available whether the illness, injury or exposure to contagious disease is to the employees themselves or to members of their immediate families. For purposes of this section, IMMEDIATE FAMILY means a spouse or child living at home with the employee at the time of the illness. Sick leave shall be accrued as follows: for every calendar month of employment the full-time employee is to be credited with 10 hours of sick leave with pay. Unused sick days up to and including 90 days shall be paid upon retirement or termination in good standing.
(b) Each full-time employee may exchange three accumulated sick days from prior years for one day of regular pay. The employee may exchange a maximum of 15 accumulated sick days for five days of regular pay in any one year. If such an exchange is made, the payment to the employee will be made at the end of the next full pay period following the date of request for such an exchange.
