§ 244.22 PART-TIME POLICE OFFICER.
   (a)   The position of part-time police officer is hereby established.
   (b)   The person(s) filling the position of part-time police officer shall meet all the requirements of regular police officers and shall possess an up-to-date certification through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council.
   (c)   The part-time police officer(s) shall work those hours assigned by the Chief of Police, but shall not in any event work so many hours that enrollment in the Ohio Police and Fire Disability and Pension Fund becomes necessary.
   (d)   Part-time police officers hired after June 1, 1994, shall be compensated at the rate as shall be set by Council from time to time. When a part-time officer works on a holiday, the part-time officer shall receive compensation at the rate of one and one-half times the regular hourly rate.
   (e)   Upon initial appointment to the Department, each part-time police officer shall receive that part of the basic police uniform consisting of such clothing, accessories and police equipment as the Chief of Police determines to be necessary and reasonable in fulfilling the part-time objective. All clothing, equipment and accessories issued to a part-time police officer shall remain the property of the village and shall be returned upon resignation or termination from the Department.
   (f)   The village shall provide the part-time police officer with a service pistol which conforms to the Department’s firearms policies and regulations. The pistol shall remain the property of the village and shall be surrendered to the Chief of Police upon resignation or termination from the Department.
   (g)   Unless the part-time police officer(s) is employed by the village in another capacity which singularly or in combination grants employee benefits, no employee benefits shall be received by the officer(s). In the event the part-time police officer(s) becomes entitled to employee-related benefits by reason of serving a common employer in two capacities, the benefits shall be those granted to the Department of Service under Chapter 248.
