§ 244.10 VACATIONS.
   (a)   All employees referred to in this chapter who have accumulated or who hereafter accumulate one year or more of service shall be entitled to an annual vacation with pay as follows, with "years of service" being calculated for the purposes of this section only, as defined in division (e) of this section:

   (b)   Notice of vacation time to which each employee is entitled shall be issued by the Police Chief on the first business day of each calendar year. If during the calendar year the officer is entitled to additional vacation time upon the officer's work anniversary date during that year, the officer will receive those additional vacation days at the anniversary date and can use those additional days during the remainder of the calendar year.
   (c)   An officer entitled to vacation with 18 or more years of service, with "years of service" being calculated for the purposes of this section only, as defined in division (e) of this section, shall notify the Chief of Police by May 1 of his or her choice of options of either the additional pay or extra days vacation. If such an officer fails to exercise his or her option by May 1, the Village Administrator may choose to either provide the extra pay or require that the extra vacation be taken.
   (d)   Vacation days shall be taken within the calendar year, if at all possible, and shall not carry over from year to year. In the event of unusual circumstances, pay in lieu of vacation shall be given at the discretion of the Village Administrator.
   (e)   YEARS OF SERVICE is defined for the purposes of this section as follows:
      (1)   Service of full-time employees covered under this section who are not police officers shall have their "years of service" calculated solely by the years employed full-time within the Village of Lockland, consistent with the manner that years of service are calculated in other sections of this chapter.
      (2)   Full-time police officers shall have their years of service as a police officer calculated bv the total of the following:
         A.   Years of service as a full-time police officer at any agency or agencies within the State of Ohio, as shown on the officer's records of full-time police service from the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund; and
         B.   Any other full-time police officer service outside of agencies covered within the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund records, provided that the officer has provided documentation of the full-time service from those outside agencies and the Village Administrator determines, at his or her sole discretion, that such documentation is reliable and that the full-time service as an officer as indicated in the documentation meets the spirit and intent of this section.
