(a) Upon initial appointment to the Police Department, each newly appointed officer shall receive a basic uniform consisting of clothing, accessories and police equipment as the Chief of Police determines to be reasonable and necessary. Final approval for purchase of necessary clothing, accessories and police equipment will be determined by the Village Administrator.
(b) The municipality shall provide all newly appointed patrol officers with a suitable on-duty pistol. This pistol must conform with the firearm regulations of the Police Department and such pistol shall remain the property of the municipality.
(c) (1) All regular police officers, including those serving the probationary period, shall receive an allowance of $750 per year, in addition to their regular salaries, for the purchase of uniforms, accessories or police equipment. Uniforms shall be defined as shirts, pants, tie, coat, jacket, hat and shoes. Accessories shall be defined as "leather," flashlights, mace and handcuffs. The sum shall be payable to the person furnishing the uniforms, accessories or police equipment from the general fund; however, the uniforms, accessories and police equipment shall remain the property of the municipality. If the uniforms, accessories or police equipment are purchased by an individual of the Police Department, a receipt must be presented. The receipt will include cost of item, description of item, and place of purchase. Reimbursement will only occur after approval has been granted by the Chief of Police and Village Administrator.
(2) Any uniform ruined by acts other than normal wear and negligence on the part of the employee shall be replaced at the municipality's cost at the discretion of the Chief of Police, which cost shall be determined by the Chief of Police with final approval by the Village Administrator.
(d) Nothing in this section shall be construed to allow more than $750 per year for any one police officer, except for the basic uniform and equipment to be provided upon the initial appointment of a new police officer.
