(a) Each full-time Fire Department employee is entitled 12 hours sick time per month. Fire Department employees may use sick leave, upon approval of the proper authority, for absence due to illness, injury or exposure to contagious diseases which could be communicated to other employees. Such sick leave shall be available whether the illness, injury or exposure to contagious disease is to the employees themselves or to members of their immediate families. For purposes of this section, IMMEDIATE FAMILY means a spouse or child living at home with the employee at the time of the illness. Sick days shall be accrued as follows: for every calendar month of employment the full-time employee is to be credited with 12 hours of sick leave with pay. All unused sick days up to and including 120 days shall be paid to full-time Department personnel upon retirement or after ten years of consecutive service and resignation in good standing from the Department.
(b) Employees may use sick leave, upon approval of the proper authority, for absence due to illness, injury or exposure to contagious diseases which could be communicated to other employees. Such sick leave shall be available whether the illness, injury or exposure to contagious disease is to the employees themselves or to members of their immediate family. For purposes of this section, IMMEDIATE FAMILY means a spouse or child living at home with the employee at the time of the illness.
(c) Fire personnel injured on duty are entitled to worker's compensation or to the use of accumulated sick leave but may not receive sick leave pay and worker's compensation for the same period.
(d) Each full-time employee may exchange 36 hours of accumulated sick hours from prior years for 12 hours of regular pay. The employee may exchange a maximum of 180 accumulated sick hours for 60 hours of regular pay in any one year. If such an exchange is made, the payment to the employee will be made at the end of the next full pay period following the date of request for such an exchange.
