(a) All employees referred to in this chapter who have accumulated or who hereafter accumulate one year or more of service shall be entitled to an annual vacation with pay as follows:

25 or more | 17.5 shifts / 420 hours, plus 53 hours regular pay, or 2 additional shifts |
(1) If full-time, the Fire Chief's vacation accumulation will be the same as that identified for the Police Department. The Fire Chief shall be entitled to vacation pay during his or her first year of employment, prorated to the date of hire.
(b) Notice of vacation time to which each employee is entitled shall be issued by the Fire Chief on the first business day of each calendar year. If during the calendar year the employee is entitled to additional vacation time upon the employee's work anniversary date during that year, the employee will receive those additional vacation days at the anniversary date and can use those additional days during the remainder of the calendar year.
(c) An employee entitled to vacation with 18 or more years of service shall notify the Fire Chief by May 1 of his or her choice of options of either the additional pay or extra shifts of vacation. If such an employee fails to exercise his or her option by May 1, the Village Administrator may choose to either provide the extra pay or require that the extra vacation be taken.
(d) Vacation days shall be taken within the calendar year, if at all possible, and shall not carry over from year to year. In the event of unusual circumstances, pay in lieu of vacation shall be given at the discretion of the Village Administrator.
