§ 91.42 OPENINGS; COVERS.
   Openings in sidewalks to accommodate vaults beneath for the admission of light, coal, or for other purposes may be covered with glass set in iron frames or in reinforced concrete frames, each unit of glass to measure not more than 16 square inches, or with iron covers having a rough surface and rabbetted into, or made flush with, the sidewalk. No portion or feature of any cover shall project above or form a depression below the finished surface of the sidewalk in which the cover is placed. Covers used shall be capable of safely supporting a load of not less than 300 pounds per square foot of area. No sidewalk to accommodate vaults shall be constructed without a permit from the Superintendent of Streets, and all work of this type shall be performed to his or her satisfaction.
