The police department of the village shall consist of one chief of police, two (2) deputy chiefs, five (5) sergeants, and not less than twenty eight (28) nor more than thirty six (36) patrol officers as the corporate authorities may determine from time to time, excluding any chief, deputy chief, sergeant, or patrol officer on disability leave or disability pension.
