7-5-16: CONNECTION SPECIFICATIONS:
All water mains and services shall meet the following specifications. Where there is no specification, the "Standard Specifications For Water And Sewer Main Construction In Illinois" shall be used. The village's standard details 1 shall govern construction.
   (A)   Requirements:
      1.   The buffalo or shutoff box, connection valves and service pipe shall be furnished, and installed by and at the expense of the applicant, owner or contractor, as shall all labor for trenching, pushing or backfilling. The roundway and the corporation stop shall be Mueller or Ford brass (flared). The buffalo or shutoff box shall be a five foot six inches by one and one-fourth inches (5'6" x 11/4") Minneapolis screw on type. The buffalo or shutoff box shall be located seven feet (7') to the street side of lot line. All service pipe shall be either: a) soft temper type K copper water tube (single length) of one inch (1") internal diameter or larger size or, b) ductile iron water main of four inches (4") or larger and shall extend into and within the building to be served with a gate type shutoff valve on both sides of a village water meter or meter bar.
      2.   The said village water meter shall be located within the building in such a manner as will protect it from frost and in a location that will permit free access thereto. There shall also be an outside reading device furnished by the village but be paid for by the consumer. A one-half inch (1/2") conduit shall be installed by the applicant, owner or contractor from the water meter through the outside front wall terminating at a point four feet (4') aboveground within six feet (6') of the front driveway corner of the house, except in the cases of attached garage type houses when the conduit shall terminate within six feet (6') of the dwelling side of the garage door opening. Said conduit shall not be located underground and must be installed within the building housing the meter up to the point where the outside remote reader shall be located. The outside reading device shall be installed four feet (4') aboveground on the front of the building housing the meter. All service connections to ductile iron water mains, cast iron water mains, PVC water main and transit water mains shall be accomplished by installing a bronze double strap saddle (Smith Blair 323), or a twelve inch (12") long stainless steel full circle single band saddle (Smith Blair 264), or approved equal as shown on the village water main standard details.
      3.   Separate domestic water service lines and fire flow lines shall be constructed for all buildings needing a fire sprinkler system. They may be installed in the same trench, but separated a minimum of twenty four inches (24"). Each line shall be separately tapped onto the water main.
      4.   Where water services are required as part of constructing water mains for a subdivision, the developer's water main contractor shall provide the tap and corporation cock as part of his work and there shall be no charge made by the village for the taps made by the developer's contractor.
      5.   Water and sewer services from the mains up to and entering the building shall be separated a minimum of ten feet (10') horizontally, wherever possible, or eighteen inches (18") vertically, where the horizontal separation is not possible.
   (B)   Repairs Or Replacement: All repairs for or replacement of service pipes from the right of way line to the building shall be made by and at the expense of the owners of the premises serviced. The village may, in case of emergency, repair any service pipes and, if this is done, the cost of such repair work shall be repaid to the village by the owner of the premises served.
   (C)   Valve Manholes Or Vaults: Where service lines are installed that are four inches (4") and larger in size, the shutoff valve shall be installed in a valve manhole or valve vault unless otherwise approved by the village engineer. Valve manholes or vaults shall be constructed in accordance with current standards of the village and/or as directed by the village engineer. (Ord. 95-2684, 9-5-1995)
