§ 71.05 USE OF CERTAIN STREETS BY HEAVY VEHICLES.
   (A)   Definition. For the purpose of this section, the following definition shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
      HEAVY VEHICLES. All vehicles or combination of vehicles designed or used for transporting property of any nature and having gross weight of more than 16,000 pounds.
   (B)   Restriction. No heavy vehicles shall use any street under the jurisdiction of the village.
   (C)   Exclusions.
      (1)   This section shall not act to prohibit heavy vehicles from using a village street for the purpose of obtaining orders for supplies or for moving or delivering supplies or commodities to or from any place of business or residence which has an entrance on such street.
      (2)    When being driven to the site of construction, repair or maintenance of electric, gas, water or sewer service, vehicles owned and operated by a public utility will be exempt from this section.
      (3)   Village owned or operated equipment is specifically excluded from the provisions of this section.
      (4)   A street or highway located within the village over which a state trunk highway or county trunk highway is routed is specifically excluded from the provisions of this section.
   (D)   Liability. Any operator, corporation, owner or agent whose heavy vehicle damages any village streets in violating this section shall be liable and required to pay the village the cost of repair or replacement of the damaged street.
   (E)   Posting of signs. Appropriate signs shall be procured, erected and maintained, giving notice of this section as required under Wis. Stats. § 349.17(1). The Village Board or its designee shall erect signs in such locations and in such a manner as, in the judgment of the Village Board or its designee, will carry out the purposes of this section. Signs shall conform to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices and the placement or location of signs on state or county trunk highways shall be authorized and/or coordinated with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and/or Iowa County Highway Department.
