§ 72.63 TRUCK ROUTES AND WEIGHT LIMITS.
   (A)   Streets Trucks Prohibited on. No person shall operate, or cause to be operated, any truck upon any street or roadway within the village limits except the following:
      (1)   Sand Lake Road from Grand Avenue to the easterly limits of the village.
      (2)   Beck Road between Sand Lake Road and Grass Lake Road.
      (3)   All portions of Grass Lake Road within the village limits.
   (B)   Local deliveries. All trucks entering or passing through the village for the purpose of delivering or picking up materials or merchandise shall use only the streets or roadways as set forth in division (A) above except said trucks may use other village streets for the purposes only of arriving at or departing from a destination for loading or unloading which is not located on one of said designated truck streets, and such travel on said streets and roadways shall be limited to those portions of said streets which is the shortest distance between said destination and one of the streets or roadways on which truck travel is permitted.
   (C)   General weight limits. No person shall drive any type of motor propelled vehicle upon any street or roadway within the village with a gross weight, including load, in excess of 12,000 pounds per axle.
   (D)   Special weight limits.
      (1)   In spring of each year, due to excess moisture in the roadbeds and thawing cycles, the gross weight limits shall be reduced to 8,000 pounds per axle for such a period of time as directed by the Village Engineer.
      (2)   The gross weight limit for trucks used exclusively for garbage or refuse disposal, equipped with self-compactors, shall be 16,000 pounds per axle. From February 1 to April 15 the gross weight limit shall be reduced to 12,000 pounds per axle.
   (E)   Weight.
      (1)   No vehicle weighing more than two tons per axle, including the weight of the vehicle and its load, shall be driven or moved up on to, off, or over the edge of any pavement, street or roadway within the village, unless the builder, general contractor or owner thereof shall protect such edge by putting down solid planks or other suitable device to prevent such vehicles from breaking off the edges or corners of such pavement.
      (2)   Planking shall consist of no less than 16 foot 2 x 10's which shall be placed parallel to the street at the edge of the pavement or curb and shall protect the shoulder or temporary driveway to a distance of not less than four feet onto the existing driveway bed; in turn, such planking shall be covered (overlayed) to a distance of not less than four feet onto the pavement. Such overlayment shall consist of not less than 3/4" sheet material (concrete forms are more than adequate for overlayment, but shall not suffice as the total protective bridge). The overlayment shall be movable to render the pavement free from obstruction when the "bridging" is not in use. Where a curbing is in evidence, planking will be laid to two widths onto the pavement, in lieu of overlayment, to relieve concentration of pressure on the curb.
   (F)   Guilt of owner and driver. Whenever any vehicle is operated in violation of the provisions of this section, the owner or driver, or both, of such vehicle shall be deemed guilty of such violation, and either, or both the owner and the driver of such vehicle may be prosecuted for such violation.
