1042.03 WATER SERVICE PIPES.
   All service connections to the water main must be a material approved by the City. All service pipes connecting with the distribution pipes of the waterworks shall be Type "k" soft, HDPE (Min. 150 PSI) or City approved equal pipe from the main to the shutoff cock inside the building. Copper or HDPE, as specified, shall be permitted under the ground, and all joints thereon shall be in accordance with the regulations of the Water Department. All service pipes from the building to the stop box shall be at least five feet below the surface of the earth and shall be located at a distance of three feet or more from any gas service pipe. Gas service pipes which are installed after a water service pipe is in place shall be not less than three feet distant from the water service pipe. Water service pipes shall not be laid in a sewer trench. No water service pipes can be placed within 10' of the sewer line. No sewer line can be placed within 10 feet of a water service. Any pipes crossing a water service must have a minimum of 18" of clearance between the pipes. No tap smaller than the service pipe shall be permitted. Where premises have a cellar or basement, service pipes shall be extended into the cellar before any branches are taken therefrom for any purpose whatsoever. This restriction includes connections for homes, outbuildings and appurtenant structures. A valve for shutting off water shall be placed in the service pipe immediately inside the cellar or basement wall. Such valve shall at all times be accessible and shall not be covered.
