As used in this chapter, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a) "Alcohol" means the product of distillation of fermented liquid, whether or not rectified or diluted with water, whatever the origin thereof.
(b) "Alcoholic liquor" includes any spirituous, vinous, malt or fermented liquor, liquids and compounds, whether or not medicated, proprietary or patented, and by whatever name called, containing one-half of one percent or more of alcohol by volume, and which are fit for use for beverage purposes.
(c) "Bar" means a barrier or counter over which any alcoholic liquor may be passed or served directly to customers.
(d) "Beer" means any beverage obtained by alcoholic fermentation of an infusion or decoction of barley, malt, hops or other cereal in potable water.
(e) "Citizen" means any person not less than eighteen years of age who is a citizen of the United States.
(f) "License" means a permit or privilege granted by the City to the licensee and which does not create a contractual relationship between the parties.
(g) "Residence" means the premises where a person resides permanently or temporarily.
(h) "Restaurant" means a place located in a permanent building, provided with space and accommodations, wherein, in consideration of the payment of money, hot meals are habitually prepared, sold and served to persons as the principal business of the place. "Restaurant" shall not be construed to include a drug, candy, grocery or confectionery store, but shall be construed to include a buffet, lunchroom, lunch counter, dining room of a hotel or otherwise, and every other public place where food is sold, served or consumed on the premises, including the classes of vendors set out in Section 24, subsections 1 to 5, inclusive, of Act 8 of the Public Acts of 1933 (Extra Session), as amended (M.C.L.A. 436.24), and including all establishments where food or candy is prepared or manufactured for the use of and sale to the public.
(i) "Sale" includes exchange, barter, trafficking, furnishing or giving away of any food or alcoholic liquor, or both.
(j) "Spirits" means any beverage which contains alcohol obtained by distillation, mixed with potable water and other substances in solution, and includes, among other things, wine containing an alcoholic content of over sixteen percent by volume.
(k) "Wine" means the product made by the normal alcoholic fermentation of the juice of sound ripe grapes, or any other fruit with the usual cellar treatment, and containing not more than sixteen percent of alcohol by volume. "Wine" includes fermented fruit juices other than grapes.
