218.02 ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY.
   (a)   Establishment of Office. The office of Assistant City Attorney is hereby established in and for the City pursuant to Chapter IV of the City Charter.

   (b)   Appointment; Term of Office. The Assistant City Attorney shall be appointed by Council and shall hold office as such for a term to expire on the first Monday in January of odd numbered years.

   (c)   Qualifications. The Assistant City Attorney shall be licensed to practice law in the State.

   (d)   Powers and Duties. The Assistant City Attorney shall prosecute all offenses against the ordinances of the City, including appeals from convictions thereunder; shall be the legal advisor to the District Court insofar as the prosecution of offenses against the ordinances of the City is concerned; and shall assist in the performance of the duties of the City Attorney in the event of the absence or disability of the City Attorney.

   (e)   Compensation and Benefits. The Assistant City Attorney shall receive such salary and fringe benefits as determined from time to time by Council. Such salary shall be paid in equal payments on the regular paydays established for classified employees. The fringe benefits shall be paid for by the City in the same manner as provided for classified employees.
