House numbers shall be displayed on notification by the Safety-Service Director of the proper number of a building; the owner of such building shall cause such number to be placed and continuously maintained in a conspicuous place in the front of that building. If a building stands back more than 45 feet from the street line, the number shall be conspicuously displayed at or near the walk, driveway, or common entrance to that building at the street line or a gate post, fence, tree, post, or other appropriate place, so as to be easily legible from the sidewalk.
