(A) Utility authorized.
(1) This chapter authorizes the utility to require certain backflow prevention devices in private water supply systems to prevent backflow into the public water supply system.
(2) It shall be the responsibility of the user to install and maintain the devices in conformance with this chapter and other rules and regulations established by the state.
(B) Utility sole interpreter. The utility shall be the interpreter of this chapter and the arbiter and judge as to whether such a backflow prevention device is required. If such a backflow prevention device is required, the utility shall determine the type and the location of the device. The utility may order installation of the device by written notice to the user, under the conditions defined.
(C) Areas of application, geographic location. Inasmuch as the utility serves customers outside of the corporate limits of the city, this chapter shall apply to all users, both urban and suburban.
(D) State Uniform Plumbing Code of Interface. This chapter supplements the uniform Indiana Plumbing Code and shall not supersede the provisions of the Plumbing Code.
(E) Check valve. In all cases where boilers, hot water tanks, cooling towers or any such device which may cause higher pressure than that which is in the main; shall have a state approved check valve/backflow prevention device placed on the effluent side of the water meter. A list of approved check valves shall be on file at the City Clerk-Treasurer's office.
(F) List of installers. The City Water Department will provide a list of installers and materials if requested.
