When used in this title, the following words and phrases shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, unless otherwise noted:
BUSINESS: For purposes of this chapter, a "business" shall mean any occupation, vocation, pursuit, trade, industry, profession, or commercial activity of any kind, carried on for purposes of economic benefit or profit or engaged in for livelihood or gain except those carried on in a temporary or part time manner by nonprofit organizations as projects for fundraising.
(A) For purposes of determining whether a business license is required, this definition shall not include the practice of law, nor shall it include any business which the Montana legislature has declared that municipalities either with or without self-governing powers may not impose a license fee or license tax.
(B) This definition shall not be construed to apply to any person because of that person's status as an employee of any unit of government or of any private employer.
LICENSE: Any license required by this title, except beer, wine, liquor or gambling licenses.
LICENSEE: Any person holding any license required by this title. (Ord. 1700, 12-6-2004)
