No application shall be approved unless and until the specifications contain the following minimum standards:
(A) Size of collector sewers.
(1) Residential. Serving residential areas only a minimum of eight inches.
(2) Commercial. Serving mixed residential, commercial and industrial areas a minimum size sufficient to carry the expected load, plus an amount equal to 25% overload.
(B) Manholes.
(1) Manholes shall be made of precast concrete with an interior diameter not less than 48 inches and shall have a ladder adequate to permit safe ingress and egress.
(2) Manholes shall be placed not more than 300 feet apart and at every change of direction of the sewer.
(3) All connections and joints at manholes shall be made watertight, inside and out.
(4) Top surfaces of manholes and covers shall be ¼ inch above the surface of finished streets.
(5) Manhole covers shall be of either steel or cast iron with no ventilating holes and of adequate strength to carry normal city traffic.
(C) Material standards.
(1) Force mains shall be of cast iron with bell and spigot or mechanical joints.
(2) Collector sewer lines shall be of centrifically-cast iron, precast concrete or salt glazed tile.
(D) Lift stations.
(1) Lift stations shall be installed where necessary and shall be of the centrifical pump design.
(2) Manholes for lift stations shall have adequate working room for servicing and meet the specifications in division (B)(1) of this section.
(E) Connections.
(1) All connections and joints shall be water tight to prevent and reduce to a minimum the infiltration of ground water and the leakage of sewage.
(2) Connections in salt glaze tile or precast concrete shall be of the bituminous joint type.
(3) Connections in cast iron shall be of the bell and spigot or mechanical joint type.
(F) Construction methods.
(1) All sewer lines shall be bedded and covered with natural sand or Kentucky No. 11 limestone rock or smaller.
(2) Gravity sewers shall be designed to provide a flow velocity of two feet per second.
(G) General. Service connections at the property line shall be marked with steel stakes extending three feet above grade.
