Because of the specialized purpose and emergency nature for which fallout shelters are intended, any such shelter which complies with the paragraphs following is hereby exempt from the provisions of this building code except as otherwise provided herein.
(A) Definition. A fallout shelter is a structure designed and constructed in accordance with this section, for emergency use only, to afford minimum protection from nuclear radiation, commonly known as “fallout,” resulting from a nuclear incident which is likely to be of catastrophic proportions.
(B) General provisions. A fallout shelter in matters relating to construction and structural stability, shall be engineered and designed to comply with the provisions of Chapters BB-29 and BB-31, O.B.C.
