In the interest of safety, all persons riding a bicycle on the streets, alleys and public highways within the city shall at all times observe the traffic laws of the city the same as operators of automobiles, and shall:
(A) Obey all traffic signs and signals;
(B) Never carry another person on the crossbar, handlebars or rear carrier;
(C) Always ride on the right-hand side of the street, close to the curb or parked line of cars;
(D) Ride single file and keep a safe distance behind the vehicle or bicycle ahead;
(E) Ride in a straight line and not weave or make sharp turns in traffic and never dart in and out of traffic;
(F) Not attempt to pass the moving vehicle ahead at an intersection, but shall wait until he or she has passed the intersection;
(G) Always ride at a safe speed;
(H) When riding at night, have a white light on the front and a red light or approved reflector on the rear of the bicycle;
(I) Keep his or her bicycle in good condition, with a bell or horn, good brakes and seat and handlebars properly adjusted;
(J) Never “hitch” to a moving vehicle;
(K) Park his or her bicycle in a proper place, standing upright;
(L) Keep out of car tracks and ruts;
(M) Never stunt or race in traffic;
(N) Keep his or her bicycle under control; and
(O) Always ride with caution and courtesy.
