(A) The Police Chief shall be appointed by the Mayor.
(B) Appointment of deputy chiefs shall be made upon the recommendation of the Chief, subject to the approval of the Mayor.
(C) All other appointments, positions of rank and promotions within the Department shall be made according to the merit system as provided under I.C. §§ 36-8-3.5-1 et seq. or, with respect to the reserve or volunteer members of the department, in accordance with their rules and regulations, subject to the approval of the Board of Public Works and Safety.
