Sec. 3.4. Organization of board of alderpersons; oath of office.
   The board of alderpersons shall meet and organize for the transaction of business at the first regularly scheduled meeting of the board in December following each biennial election, after the results of such election have been certified pursuant to the General Statutes of North Carolina. Before entering upon their offices, the mayor and each alderman shall take, subscribe to and have entered upon the minutes of the board the following oath of office:
   “I,                                                                                 , do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and maintain the Constitution and laws of the United States, and the Constitution and laws of North Carolina not inconsistent therewith, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of my office as                                           , so help me, God.”
