Sec. 3.3. Terms; qualifications; vacancies.
   (a)   The mayor and members of the board of alderpersons shall serve for terms of four years by staggered elections every two years; provided, they shall serve until their successors are elected and qualified pursuant to the General Statutes of North Carolina. (Adopted 4-21-03)
   (b)   No person shall be eligible to be a candidate or to be elected as mayor or as a member of the board of alderpersons or to serve in such capacity, unless he possesses the qualifications set forth in article IV of the Constitution of the State of North Carolina.
   (c)   In the event a vacancy occurs in the office of mayor or alderman, the board of alderpersons shall by majority vote appoint some qualified person to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the unexpired term.
