§ 150.447 SAFETY FEATURES AND DEVICES.
   (A)   Steps or ladders. Two or more means of egress by steps or ladders shall be provided for all swimming pools. At least one such means of egress shall be located at the deep end and one at the shallow end of the pool. Treads of steps and ladders shall be constructed of nonslip materials. Ladders or step holds shall have handrails on both sides.
   (B)   Stairs. When stairs are designed and installed in any swimming pool, they shall meet the following requirements:
      (1)   Maximum raise of nine inches;
      (2)   Minimum tread width of 12 inches;
      (3)   The extreme limits of the stair shall be defined by handrails or other permanent structures; and
      (4)   Stairs designed and installed wider than seven feet shall be visibly defined.
   (C)   Safety rope anchors. Safety rope anchors shall be installed at the transition point, except when the maximum water depth does not exceed five feet.
   (D)   Fence. A fence shall be erected around the swimming pool area or around the entire property on which the pool is contained. Such nonclimbable fence shall be not less than four feet in height and shall be equipped with gates having a self-latching, self-closing device. The self-latching, self-closing device shall be installed on the interior without an exterior release.
