§ 150.201 INTERIOR WALL AND CEILING COVERING.
   All interior wall and ceiling covering shall be installed in accordance this section.
   (A)   General.
      (1)   Wall and ceilings shall be lath and plaster, minimum one-half inch Type “X” gypsum wallboard or approved equal.
      (2)   One-half inch Type “X” gypsum board or approved equal may be installed on ceilings with framing members on 16-inch centers or less.
      (3)   Ceilings with framing members on greater than 16-inch centers shall be covered with five-eighths inch gypsum board or approved equal. One-half inch Type “X” gypsum board may be applied if solid blocking is installed on four foot centers.
   (B)   Paneling. Wood, plywood or other decorative paneling shall be applied in accordance with the following table:
 
3/4-inch solid wood or plywood paneling
Backer board not required
5/16-inch solid wood or plywood paneling but less than 3/4 inch
3/8-inch gypsum backer board
1/4-inch paneling or less
1/2-inch Type “X” gypsum backer board
 
   (C)   Vertical assemblies. Lath or gypsum wallboard shall be supported by studs or furring when installed over solid masonry or placed concrete walls.
   (D)   Gypsum board.
      (1)   Gypsum board shall be applied with the long dimension perpendicular to supports, and with end joints staggered in successive courses.
      (2)   Gypsum board shall be attached to framing members in accordance with the Gypsum Association Specifications.
   (E)   Interior plaster.
      (1)   Plastering with gypsum plaster or portland cement plaster shall be not less than three coats when applied over metal lath or wire lath and shall be not less than two coats when applied over other bases permitted by this section.
      (2)   (a)   Plaster shall not be applied directly to fiber insulation board.
         (b)   Portland cement plaster shall not be applied directly to gypsum lath, gypsum masonry or gypsum plaster.
   (F)   Edges and ends. All edges and ends of gypsum wallboard shall occur on the framing members, except those edges and ends which are perpendicular to the framing members.
   (G)   Bathroom tub and shower wall finishes. All bathroom tub and shower wall finishes shall be applied over a backer board of one-half inch interior cement board attached per manufacturers specifications.
   (H)   Supporting walls, partitions and ceilings. All supporting walls, partitions and ceilings shall be finished with a minimum of one-half inch, Type “X”, gypsum board when installing modular bathroom tub and shower enclosures.
