§ 150.195 MASONRY FIREPLACES.
   (A)   Masonry fireplaces shall be constructed with solid masonry walls not less than eight inches thick. A minimum two-inch thick liner of fire brick or other approved lining shall be installed in addition to the eight inch wall thickness.
   (B)   (1)   Hearths shall extend at least 16 inches in front of, and at least eight inches beyond each side of fireplace openings. Where the fireplace opening is ten square feet or larger, the hearth shall extend at least 20 inches in front of, and at least 12 inches beyond each side of the fireplace opening.
      (2)   Hearths shall be constructed of approved noncombustible material properly supported or reinforced to carry its own weight and all imposed loads.
   (C)   Woodwork or other combustible materials shall not be placed within six inches of a fireplace opening. Combustible material located six inches to 12 inches from the fireplace opening shall not project more than one-eighth of an inch for each inch distance from such opening.
   (D)   Wood or combustible framing shall not be placed within one inch of outside walls of a masonry fireplace.
   (E)   All fireplaces or solid fuel burning appliances shall be provided with dampers.
