For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
COUNCIL COMMITTEE. When mentioned in this subchapter, refers to the City Council Human Relations Committee, consisting of four aldermen appointed by the Mayor as regular members and the Mayor as Chairperson. The COUNCIL COMMITTEE shall advise and consult with the City Council, City Manager and citizens of the community on implementation of the policy of this subchapter.
DISCRIMINATE and DISCRIMINATION. Includes any difference in treatment of persons who are or may be interested in the sale, lease, rental or financing of housing accommodations, and any difference in the terms of the sale, lease, rental or financing of housing accommodations.
HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS. Includes any building, structure or portion thereof, which is used or occupied, or is maintained, arranged or designed to be used or occupied, as a home, residence or sleeping place of one or more human beings, and to vacant land within any of the residence districts or the duplex district, as delineated in the city zoning ordinance of 1923, as amended.
LENDING INSTITUTION. Any bank, insurance company, savings and loan association, other person in the business of lending money or guaranteeing loans, any person in the business of obtaining, arranging or negotiating loans, or guarantees as agent or broker, and any person in the business of buying or selling loans, or instruments for the payment of money, which are secured by title to or a security interest in real estate, but shall not include any religious institution or organization, nor any charitable or educational organization, operated, supervised or controlled by a religious institution or organization.
PERSON. Includes individuals, associations, partnerships and corporations.
REAL ESTATE BROKER. Any real estate broker required to be licensed under the ordinance of the city.
