4-3-1: DEFINITIONS:
In construing the provisions of this chapter, except where otherwise stated or clearly apparent from the context, words used herein shall be given their common and ordinary meanings except the following definitions shall apply:
AT LARGE: Being off the property of the owner or keeper of the domestic animal in question.
DOG: All members of the canine family.
DOMESTIC ANIMAL: This term shall include, but not be limited to, canine, feline, bovine, equine, porcine, caprine, domestic fowl, and rabbits.
KENNEL: The keeping and/or maintenance of more than three (3) dogs, each of which is more than one year old, or more than three (3) cats, each of which is more than one year old. By way of an example in the application of this definition, this definition and section 4-3-10 of this chapter would allow up to three (3) dogs, each more than one year old, and/or up to three (3) cats, each more than one year old, for a combined total of as many as six (6) animals which are each more than one year old.
OWNER: Any person having a right of property in a dog or who keeps or harbors a dog or has it in his care or acts as its custodian or who knowingly permits a dog to remain on or about any premises occupied by him.
STRAY DOGS: Those dogs found in the public way or on private property other than that of the owner. (Ord. 99-O-05, 3-2-1999; amd. Ord. 2018-O-10, 6-6-2018)
