Every appointive officer of the village shall hold office until the first of May following his or her appointment or until his or her successor is appointed and qualified, unless it is otherwise provided by ordinance. In case of a vacancy in any such place, it shall be filled in the same manner in which appointments or selections are made in the absence of provisions to the contrary.
