(A) The five exercises which make up this test are as follows:
(1) Carry a 55 pound hose bundle up four flights of stairs, drop the bundle on the fifth floor and walk back down the stairs;
(2) Carry a 45 pound fan 150 feet around the drill tower and replace it back where it was picked up;
(3) Use a 8 pound rubber mallet to strike a steel beam situated on an aluminum bed a distance of five feet (simulating using an ax to cut through a roof or other surface);
(4) Drag a hose charged with water 75 feet, open and close the nozzle, and lay the hose down; and
(5) Drag a 174 pound dummy a distance of 100 feet.
(B) Candidates will perform the test while wearing a weighted vest under a fire uniform coat, an air tank, helmet and gloves; the weight of this equipment is approximately 55 pounds. All five exercises must be completed in sequence with no stops or rests in between. Candidates must go at the reasonable pace during the exercise (NO RUNNING IS ALLOWED) and will be timed.
(C) Those who complete the exam in less than five minutes will get a higher score than those who take between 5:01 and 6:30 minutes. The passing time for the physical performance test is six minutes and 30 seconds.
(D) All candidates will be allowed to participate in the 1½ mile run a week after the physical performance test. The passing time for the 1½ mile is 11 minutes, 40 seconds. This exam is scored pass/fail.
