(A) Application. Interested individuals may complete a standard employment application at any time. Applications will remain on file until there is an opening on the Department. When there is an opening, individuals with applications on file will be contacted. Additional applicants may be recruited as well.
(B) Screening. Interested applicants will meet, by appointment, with a screening committee which will review the job requirements (professional, educational, physical and the like) and present the applicants with a job description and the Department rules and regulations.
(C) Physical agility test. All applicants must take the same physical agility test which will include but not be limited to confined space experience, basic air pack drill, lifting and the like, as provided in the Physical Performance Test attached as set forth in the Appendix following this chapter, which will be graded pass/fail.
(D) Group interview. Applicants who pass the physical will be interviewed by a group consisting of the Fire Chief, a member of the Governing Authority and at least one additional person. Each question will be worth a certain number of points. After this interview, the interview group will total each applicant's points and the Fire Chief will present the group's hiring recommendation to the Governing Authority, which will make the final hiring decision.
(E) Medical evaluation. After being selected to hire, each firefighter is required by the state to undergo a medical evaluation, which will be graded pass/fail.
(F) Hire/probation. After passing the medical evaluation, the applicant is hired on a one-year probationary basis. Probation expectations will be explained to each new firefighter upon his/her hire.
