(A) Vehicular weight on roads limited. It shall be unlawful to operate, move, or cause to be moved along or upon any of the streets of alleys in the city any truck, tractor, trailer, automobile, car or any other vehicle of any kind or any combination thereof when the gross weight of any single axle exceeds the weight limited by the Council of the city during the period of time fixed by the Council.
(B) Informative signs to be erected. Weight limitations shall be established by the Council so as to coordinate with those imposed by other municipalities, including but not necessarily limited to the county, except that weight restrictions effective for periods different from such other municipality or municipalities may be imposed by City Council resolution duly enacted, and as such restrictions are designated and imposed, notice thereof shall be given with appropriate signs caused to be erected, placed and maintained on the streets of the city so as to reasonably inform the motoring public.
(C) Defacing of signs prohibited. It shall be unlawful to remove, deface, destroy or render illegible any sign erected to inform drivers of the weight limits set for vehicles moving or moved along or upon city streets or alloys.
(D) Seasonal weight restrictions.
(1) Existing regulations reaffirmed. Existing city regulations with reference to seasonal weight restrictions on roads, streets and other public thoroughfares except as hereinafter modified shall remain in full force and effect.
(2) Ongoing construction activity exception. In instances where there are city construction projects in progress which are not suspended for seasonally related conditions and access to which can be gained over non-city public thoroughfares, the weight restrictions thereon shall not apply in the construction project area for and during the period such ongoing construction activity remains uncompleted.
(3) Collective gross weight. Restricted are those vehicles or vehicles/trailers/equipment with the collective gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 16,000 pounds or more.
