(A) Application. The provisions of this subchapter shall apply to all installations of electrical conductors, fittings, devices, appliances, and fixtures, hereinafter referred to as "electrical equipment", within or on private and public buildings and other structures unless hereinafter excepted.
(B) Other provisions of this subchapter notwithstanding, the following exemptions shall be applicable:
(1) No permit shall be required to perform electrical work on temporary wiring involved in the manufacturing, testing, servicing, altering, or repairing of electrical equipment or apparatus. This exemption shall not apply to permanent wiring. Wiring in excess of 14 days shall not be considered temporary unless by written permission of the authority having jurisdiction.
(2) No permit shall be required to perform electrical work connected with the assembly, erection, and connection of electrical equipment by the manufacturer of such equipment, but not including wiring between two or more parts of such equipment.
(3) This subchapter does not apply to the following installations:
(a) Installations listed in division (A) of this section not of a substantial nature, for the purpose of normal maintenance.
(b) Installation in ships, watercraft other than floating dwelling units, railway rolling stock, aircraft, or automotive.
(c) Installations underground in mines.
(d) Installations of railways for generation, transformation, transmission, or distribution of power used exclusively for operation of rolling stock or installations used exclusively for signaling and communication purposes.
(e) Installations of communication equipment under the exclusive control of communication utilities, located outdoors or in building spaces, used exclusively for such equipment.
(f) Installations under the exclusive control of electric utilities for the purpose of communication, or metering; or for the generation, control, transformation, transmission, and distribution of electric energy located in buildings used exclusively by utilities for such purposes or located outdoors on property owned or leased by the utility or on public highways, streets, roads, and the like, or outdoors by established rights on private property. This provision shall also apply to the employees of the aforementioned entities only while such employees are engaged within the scope of their employment for such entities.
