4-11-2: DEFINITIONS:
Terms used in this chapter have the following meanings. Other words and phrases used in this chapter shall have the meanings attributed to them in Iowa Code Chapter 147A (2023) and 641 Iowa Administrative Code Chapter (“IAC”) 132 (2023) (NOTE: unless otherwise indicated all references to the Code of Iowa or Iowa Administrative Code will be as the same existed at the enactment of this ordinance as may be amended from time to time) unless a different meaning is plainly required by the context.
AMBULANCE:
Any motor vehicle that is specifically designed, modified, constructed, equipped, staffed, and used regularly to transport patients.
AMBULANCE SERVICE:
Any service program that utilizes ambulances to provide emergency medical services and emergency or nonemergency ground transport of patients to or from a health care facility or between health care facilities.
ATTENDANT-DRIVER :
An individual responsible for the operation and driving of an ambulance.
EMS:
Prehospital emergency medical services.
FIRE CHIEF:
The duly appointed Knoxville Fire Chief or his/her authorized representative.
MEDICAL DIRECTION:
Direction, advice or orders provided by a Medical Director (as defined under this chapter) or a supervising physician or physician designee (as defined in 641 IAC 132.1) in accordance with written parameters and protocols to ambulance service personnel.
MEDICAL DIRECTOR:
Any duly licensed physician(s) appointed by an ambulance service licensed under this chapter to be responsible for overall medical direction of the ambulance service and who meets the qualifications for a medical director of an ambulance service as the term is defined under 641 IAC 132.1.
PATIENT or PATIENTS:
Any individual(s) who is(are) injured, sick or otherwise incapacitated and in need of emergency medical services or ground transport to or from health care facilities or between health care facilities in an ambulance.
 
 
PERSON:
An individual, partnership, association, corporation (governmental or private), Limited Liability Company or any other legal entity including any receiver, trustee, assignee, or similar representative.
PHYSICIAN:
An individual licensed under Iowa Code Chapter 148, 150 or 150A.
POLICE CHIEF:
The duly appointed Knoxville Police Chief or his/her authorized representative. (Ord. 23-09, 7-17-2023)
