A reserve peace officer shall not carry a weapon in the line of duty until he or she has been approved by the City Council and certified by the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Council. Individuals serving as reserve peace officers for the City as of July 1, 1980, are exempt from the certification requirements of this Section pending completion of approved training or until July 1, 1981, whichever comes first. After approval and certification, a reserve peace officer may carry a weapon in the line of duty only when authorized by the Chief of Police. (Ord. 80, 7-21-1980)
