§ 53.20 RESPONSIBILITY FOR BREAKAGE OF LINES.
   (A)   The town shall have authority to close the curb stop at any time a break in the service line appears to have occurred, and will reopen the curb stop when satisfied that no break exists or the break has been repaired. In a case where a property owner wishes to update or breaks have occurred, the owner may be eligible for the city to pay for half of a manufactured meter pit to be installed at the lot line. If owners wish to receive partial compensation for a meter pit, they must come before the Town Board for approval.
   (B)   In the event of breakage of a water line between the lot line and the residence, business or structure, the person having ownership or responsibility for the premises shall be responsible for the maintenance or repair of the line from the lot line to the residence, business or structure, and the town shall have responsibility for breakage or repair from the lot line to the main.
   (C)   It is understood the owners or responsible party of the property shall be responsible for the repairs as stated in order to preserve the street and sewer and water systems of the city.
