COMMISSION ON HUMAN RELATIONS
Said Commission on Human Relations shall be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council. The members of such Commission shall be composed of a broad representation of community interests, be residents of the city, serve individual terms of three years without compensation, choose their own Chairperson and such other officers as they may desire, and prepare and adopt their own bylaws to regulate the meetings and procedures. The Chairperson of said Commission on Human Relations shall be and is hereby appointed an ex officio member of the Citizen's Committee on Urban Renewal of the city.

(A) The Commission on Human Relations shall encourage and work towards the bringing about of mutual understanding and respect among all peoples in the city in order that prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, discrimination and disorder occasioned thereby be eliminated and shall cooperate with civic, religious and educational organizations in these endeavors.
(B) It is the intent and objective of the City Council that the following broad purposes be sought:
(1) To encourage understanding and respect between persons of various racial, religious and nationality backgrounds;
(2) To safeguard the rights of all citizens as defined by our laws and constitution; and
(3) To open opportunities for full participation in community life to all including opportunities in housing, employment, public accommodations and education.
