§ 38.03 RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT FOR CITY EMPLOYMENT.
   (A)   All future employees of the city shall be residents of the city or become residents of the city within the time period as provided in the following subsections. All city employees shall remain residents of the city during the course of their employment.
   (B)   Any present employee of the city who is not a resident of the city need not become a resident if the employee remains at his or her present residence. However, if a nonresident present employee changes his or her residence, he or she shall be required to establish a new residence within the city.
   (C)   Any future employee of the city who is not a resident of the city shall become a resident within six months from the date of his or her employment.
   (D)   The residency requirements of this section shall not apply to police officers and firefighters. Residency requirements for police officers and firefighters shall be those set forth in the rules and regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the city. If there is no residency requirement in said rules and regulations, then the residency requirements of this section shall also apply to police officers and firefighters.
