It is unlawful for any person to discharge or cause to be discharged within the village, any gun, pistol or other firearms, or to use, discharge or operate any air gun or sling shot; provided, however that this section shall not apply to duly constituted police officers in the performance of their duties or to persons at the direction and under the supervision of those officers, or to a citizen when lawfully defending his or her person or property.
