It shall be the duty of the poundmaster and his or her deputy and of the Police Department or other person as may be designated by the Board of Trustees to take up and impound in the place designated by the Board, any animal found running at large within the village contrary to the provisions of this subchapter, and if the animal shall not be redeemed as hereinafter provided within five days after notice is given as hereinafter provided, it shall be the duty of the poundmaster or Police Department to cause the animal to be killed or otherwise disposed of under the direction of the Chief of Police.
